Highlights from The Good Market 2018

10 Jul 2018

Over 1000 people flocked to The Good Market last Saturday to celebrate and support the vibrant community of ethical and sustainable businesses and organisations operating in Perth! The Lisura coffee cart, serving coffee sourced directly from their grandmother’s plantation in Kenya straight into a reusable cup, was a hit with the crowds, as were all the healthy goodies by Sweet Dream Foods and the delicious Iraqi street food by CARAD-Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees Inc. in just their second-ever market gig!

Meanwhile the Winthrop Hall Undercroft buzzed with conversation and laughter, with local musician Ezereve’s beautiful voice echoing our collective vision for good in the background.

It was more than just a hub of fair trade and conscious consuming. We had people of all ages learning in diverse and unique ways. The Kids Corner bustled with creativity, where our youngest social changers joined Bottle for Botol in upcycling T-shirts into bags; while in the Speaker Tent next door, people sat down for talks on ethical supply chains, fair food, plastic free living and live demonstrations of how to make wax food wraps by Natural Storage Co.

And the Eco Faeries were an absolute favourite, captivating children and adults alike with their green-living magic!

“When you’re doing something good, it attracts positive energy, it attracts people to what you’re doing,” said Antonia Taylor, the Festival project officer behind The Good Market, while reflecting on the success of the day. “All of these people are, in their unique ways, trying to do good and make a change. It’s really inspiring and very motivating!”

Thank you to everyone who came down to The Good Market on Saturday and special thanks to our speakers, stall-holders, entertainers and volunteers – the originating point of all the positive impact generated by the Market.
